NAVANG shipyard

The water supply site was carried out by the company INDARA of OUDOMXAY. It is this company which, in 2018, had built us in compliance with the rules and commitments, the NAMPHOUAN dispensary.

     A. Land transfer

To allow the primary and secondary school and the NAVANG dispensary to have access to water, the association has chosen to carry out a catchment of the Beng River. This river is 520 meters from the school and 220 meters from the dispensary. The water network crosses fields, wooded areas but also inhabited areas. It was the village chief of NAVANG who obtained authorization from the various owners to cross the land before starting the work.

     B. Realization of trenches

The earthworks to bury the water pipes between the Beng River and the water reservoirs of the school and the dispensary were carried out in part by the company but also by the entire community of the village of NAVANG and more particularly by the secondary school students. Trenches 70 centimeters deep were dug so that the water network was buried enough and did not break quickly. This collective work took place in joy and good humor.

     C. Location of cisterns

A water tank was built right next to the dispensary and another was built right next to the secondary school toilets. Under the cisterns, water columns have been installed to bring the water network to the reservoir. Then the tank was installed high up, protected by a roof.

At the dispensary there is a tap directly under the tank and there are 5 other taps in the dispensary. This cistern has a capacity of 1600 liters of water and has a flow rate of 3m3 of water per hour.

At the primary school, there are 2 water points, one in the kitchen and one behind the toilets. And in the secondary school, there are 10 water points, four outside the toilets, three in the toilets, one in the disabled toilets and two behind the school. The school cistern has a capacity of 2000 liters of water and has a flow rate of 4m3 per hour.

     D. Catchment and sanitation

The catchment well was installed right next to the Beng River. A backhoe was used to connect the catchment well to the water source. The catchment well is 4 meters deep. The water column including the water filters and the water pump was installed and the workers built a stone retaining wall to consolidate the catchment well.

     E. Installation of electricity

Electricity was installed between the village and the water source to run the pumps and water filters in the catchment well. A dozen electric poles have been installed to reach the river. However, near the river, the electric wires were buried to prevent the poles from collapsing during the rising waters.

     F. School student participation

As mentioned earlier, the students of the school actively participated in this project, on a voluntary basis. Besides helping to dig the trenches, they also carried stones to the water source for filtration. Their solidarity is an example for our association, because the commitment of the students in this project attests to the will of the local population to participate in the construction and maintenance of the water network over the long term. The water network now belonging to the dispensary and the school of NAVANG, this also makes it possible to empower the population, especially the students, in water management.
